What You Need

USB-to-RS485 adapter
Shielded twisted pair cable (RS-485)
120 ohm termination resistors (2x) (x2)
Flowstate CL260 edge nodeIncluded in kit

Customer provides:

  • Drive parameter access
  • RS-485 wiring path to edge node

Physical Connection

  1. 1

    Identify fieldbus option

Check if the ACS880 has an FENA-21 (Ethernet) or FSCA-01 (RS-485 Modbus RTU) adapter installed in an option slot.

The drive's built-in EIA-485 port (X5 terminal) supports Modbus RTU without any adapter module.

  2. 2

    Connect RS-485 (Modbus RTU)

Wire RS-485 A/B lines from the drive's X5 terminal (pins 22/24) to a USB-to-RS485 adapter on the edge node. Add 120 ohm termination at both ends.

  3. 3

    Alternative: Ethernet module

If FENA-21 is installed, connect Cat6 from the module's RJ45 port directly to the edge node. Set IP via drive panel (parameter group 58).

Machine Configuration

  1. 1

    Set Modbus parameters

    Parameter 58.01 = station address (1-247). 58.02 = baud rate (19200 typical). 58.03 = parity (even). 58.04 = data bits (8).

  2. 2

    Enable communication supervision

Parameter 30.01 = 1 (enable comm loss fault). 30.02 = timeout in seconds.

Verification

  1. 1

    Read drive status

Read holding register 1 (status word) and register 2 (actual speed). Non-zero values confirm communication.

  2. 2

    Dashboard check

Drive appears in Flowstate with speed, torque, current, and temperature readings.
