Modbus TCP Device
Also applies to: VFD, PLC, Power Meter, Flow Meter, Level Sensor
What You Need
Customer provides:
- Device Modbus register map documentation
- Device IP address and unit ID
Physical Connection
- 1
Connect Ethernet
Connect the device to the same network as your Flowstate edge node (CL260 or equivalent) via Ethernet cable.
- 2
Note IP and port
Find the device's IP address and Modbus TCP port (default: 502). Check the device's display or configuration tool.
Machine Configuration
- 1
Configure Node-RED Modbus node
Add a Modbus-Read node in Node-RED. Set the IP, port, unit ID (slave address), and register addresses from your device's Modbus map.
- 2
Map registers to metrics
Consult the device's Modbus register map documentation. Map each register address to a meaningful metric name (e.g., register 40001 = motor_speed_rpm).
Verification
- 1
Test read
Deploy the Node-RED flow and verify values appear in the debug panel. Compare with the device's local display.
- 2
Verify in Flowstate
Check the Operations dashboard for the new device. Metrics should update at your configured polling interval.
