What You Need
Customer provides:
- OPC UA server endpoint URL
- Security credentials (if required)
- Node tree documentation
Physical Connection
- 1
Connect to network
Ensure the OPC UA server device is on the same network as your Flowstate edge node.
- 2
Find endpoint URL
The OPC UA server endpoint is typically: opc.tcp://{ip}:4840. Check the device's configuration tool.
Machine Configuration
- 1
Configure Node-RED OPC UA client
Add an OPC-UA-Client node in Node-RED. Set the endpoint URL. Configure security policy (None for testing, Basic256Sha256 for production).
- 2
Browse node tree
Use the OPC UA browser to discover available nodes. Subscribe to the nodes you want to monitor (temperatures, speeds, states).
Verification
- 1
Test subscription
Deploy the flow and verify OPC UA values appear in Node-RED debug. Values should update on change (monitored items).
- 2
Verify in Flowstate
Check the Operations dashboard for the new device. OPC UA nodes map to Sparkplug B metrics automatically.
