Generic
OPC UA Server
What You Need
Customer provides:
- OPC UA endpoint URL
- Authentication credentials (if required)
- NodeID list or namespace documentation
Physical Connection
- 1
Connect to network
Ensure the OPC UA server device (PLC, gateway, or PC) is connected to the same network as the Flowstate edge node.
- 2
Note endpoint URL
Get the OPC UA endpoint URL from the server configuration. Typical format: opc.tcp://<ip>:4840 (port 4840 is default).
- 3
Check security policy
Determine if the server requires authentication (anonymous, username/password, or certificate). Configure accordingly on the edge node.
Machine Configuration
- 1
Browse namespace
Use UaExpert, Prosys OPC UA Browser, or the Flowstate diagnostics tool to browse the server's address space. Identify relevant NodeIDs for monitoring.
- 2
Configure subscriptions
In the Flowstate edge node, create monitored items for each NodeID of interest. Set sampling interval (typically 1000ms) and queue size.
- 3
Accept security certificate
If the server uses security, trust the Flowstate edge node's client certificate in the server's trust store. Accept the server certificate on the edge node.
Verification
- 1
Read node values
Use the Flowstate diagnostics to read one or more configured NodeIDs. Verify values match the source.
- 2
Dashboard check
OPC UA node values appear in Flowstate with correct data types and update rates.
