Industrial Chiller

Also applies to: Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, Copeland

45 minutesModerateModbus TCP/RTU

What You Need

Ethernet cable or RS-485 adapter
Flowstate edge node

Customer provides:

  • Chiller controller Modbus register map
  • BMS access (if applicable)

Physical Connection

  1. 1

    Locate controller

Find the chiller's embedded controller or BMS interface point. Most industrial chillers have Modbus RTU (RS-485) or Modbus TCP.

  2. 2

    Connect gateway

If Modbus RTU: connect a Modbus-to-TCP gateway (or use the edge node's RS-485 port). If already TCP: connect via Ethernet.

Machine Configuration

  1. 1

    Map registers

Key registers: supply water temp, return water temp, compressor status, refrigerant pressure, power consumption, fault codes.

  2. 2

    Set polling interval

10-30 second polling is typical for HVAC. Faster for energy optimization use cases.

Verification

  1. 1

    Compare with local display

Verify supply and return temperatures match the chiller's built-in display. Check compressor on/off state matches reality.

Available Metrics (6)

Supply water temp (°C)
Return water temp (°C)
Compressor status
Refrigerant pressure (psi)
Power (kW)
Fault codes
